Guatemala City North Mission

...let us labor diligently: for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God. Moroni 9:6

Missionaries deliver school supplies to children in Peten

Missionaries in the Poptún area along with help from office Elders and local priesthood leadership delivered supplies to children just before they were to start their new scholastic year. January 24, 2009. The bags were sent from the Church’s Humanitarian Department. The lovingly handmade bags were filled with lined paper notebooks, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, scissors and a ruler to help give these children a great start to their learning.

New Assistant to the President Called

With the departure of Elder Valdes who completed his mission and Elder Nelson requesting to finish his mission out in the field, a new Assistant to the President was called. Elder Daniel Sanchez from El Salvador was called to assist in this great work. He was a seasoned Zone Leader and has earned the love and respect from the other missionaries. He along with Elder Nolan Hansen make a dynamic team that will spur the work to "bring thousands of souls to repentance." (Alma 26:22)

Where there is faith, there is Esperanza

Feb 14 and 15 was stake conference in the Esperanza Stake. We were happy to see some of our recent converts still firm in the faith. One brother who works for a bread delivery plant (Bimbo) brought his truck, after the meetings on Sunday, quickly changed from his white shirt to his work shirt and sped-off to do his deliveries, after first fulfilling his devotion to his Heavenly Father.

Change day for February came on President’s day. We said goodbye to Elders, Ruesta, Cuello, Robbins, Castillo, Posas, Sister Norma Chavez as well as our assistant to the President, Elder Valdes. They each left a wonderful legacy to be true to the faith by joining hands and, as a team, making a promise to each other to always….Choose the Right.

Missionary Valentine

Here in Guatemala Valentine’s Day is celebrated as the “Dia de Cariño y amistad”. We celebrated by having an Office staff lunch at the mission home to let everyone know how much they are loved and appreciated.

Senahu Missionaries host Zone Conference

Senahú was the beautiful back drop for our 2nd Zone Conference in the Polochic Valley. Although it was rainy, the charming little city and its wonderful people made our travel there memorable. The first day was spent in interviews with the President and Sister Torres doing dwelling inspections. The second day our Conference started early so we would have time to drive back to Guatemala before nightfall. Brother and Sister Tilley presented their security presentation and we had our focus on learning doctrine of the Lord’s atonement. Our lunch had to be brought in from Guatemala. The menu consisted of Sloppy Joes with cheese, coleslaw, dill pickles, mixed vegetables, carrot sticks, fruit drinks, chips, brownies, and heart shaped sugar cookies which Sister Tilley made to commemorate Valentine’s Day. We love our Elders and Sisters in Polochic. What they lack in modern convince, they make up for in the natural beauty of their surroundings.

New Assistant to the President

President called a new Assistant since Elder Valdes will be returning home soon. Elder Nolan Hansen from Moses Lake Washington has been called to assist the President with this important work. Welcome Elder!
