Guatemala City North Mission

...let us labor diligently: for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God. Moroni 9:6

Welcome to the Best Mission in the World!

We have two new office sisters, Sister Bingham and Sister Oreamuno as well as a new missionary couple, Brother and Sister McBride who will work in the Peten area. We also received 15 new missionaries. They are Elders Drach, Fusi, Gochis, White, Batty, Hess, Letner, Womack, Vasquez, Alonso, Morales, Lara, Gonzales, Sisters Robbins and Allen. Bienvenidos!

Greatest loss to date

Every six weeks we know we will be saying good bye to some of our dear missionaries. This last change was the most difficult. We had to say "adios" to 17 missionaries. As well as one of our Area Presidents, Elder and Sister Christensen. This meant a great deal of changes in almost 80% of the mission's companionships. Change is constant in the mission field. Thank you for your dedication, love and service. Till we meet again... Brother and Sister Boman our mission couple from Peten. Our office manager Kathy Jones. Our Assistant Nolan Hansen. Our missionaries who make up the strength and muscle of our mission, Elder Roberts, Quesada, Stoker, Brandaris,Keller, Beckstead, Makalo, Baldwin, Clark, Maldonado, Boren, Lopez and Hermana Funez. "Hasta vernos con el Rey."

Quirigua

During our May Zone Conference, we stopped to visit Quirigua which one of the 1st archeological sites discovered in the Americas in 1840. Joseph Smith suggested (in Times and Seasons, Oct 1, 1841) that Quirigua was a possible candidate for the City of Zarahemla or some other Book of Mormon City. Quirigua is one of these famous Classic Maya cities that post dates Book of Mormon times, however, recent excavations in the deep alluvial flood deposits have uncovered extensive ruins that do date back into Book of Mormon times. (see slide show)

New Phones in May

May Zone Conferences started with President and Sister Torres touring alone with Sister Jones who went along to help assign our new telephones to be used throughout the mission. The first leg of our May tour was in Petén, then off to Coban, Zone Conferences for Polochic and Senahú as host. Last but not least were our Zones in the City, Atlántico, Alameda, Molino, Esperanza, and Las Victorias. (see side bar for more pictures of our Zone)
